Bible Verses for an Anxious Mind

With everything going on in the world at the moment and with the big changes and adjustments being made to our lives due to the Coronavirus, we can often find ourselves spending a lot of time worrying and feeling anxious

I thought that now would be as best a time as any to delve into a bible verse journal that I've had since I was 16, and pull out some of my favourite verses that have soothed my anxious mind over the years and brought me peace in times of worry.

If you're like me, and prone to anxiously over-thinking about things, I find that it's helpful to have something that brings you back to earth - something that just clears your swirling mind and settles the anxious butterflies in your stomach. Yes, this can sometimes be the reassuring words from a friend or a loved one, but often, we need words that are even stronger than those which can be audibly heard in order to cast away our anxious thoughts for good (or time and time again if you're like me!)

Even if you're not a Christian, but perhaps like inspiring quotes, I hope that you still take some comfort from these verses and that they bring you a sense of peace.

The Lord will fight for you, you need only be still.

- Exodus 14:14

He will cover you with His feathers, and under His wing you will find refuge.

- Psalm 91:4

When you pass through waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned. For I am the Lord your God.

- Isaiah 43:2-3

When the cares of my heart are many, your consolations cheer my soul.

- Psalm 94:19

Don't worry about anything; instead, tell God your needs and don't forget to thank him for his answers. If you do this, you will experience God's peace, which is far more wonderful than the human mind can understand.

- Philippians 4:6-7

I have made you, I will carry you, I will sustain you, and I will rescue you.

- Isaiah 46:4

Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.

- Joshua 1:9

The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.

- Deuteronomy 31:8

For the spirit God gave us is not one of fear; but of power, love and self-discipline.

- 2 Timothy 1:7

I just want to remind you that no matter what you are going through, you are not alone. At the end of the day, God is in control and he is always with us so why should we feel anxious? I know though, that we are only human and simply 'not feeling anxious' is so much easier said than done! That's why verses like these are so important because they almost act as reminders to us that God is with us and is the one handling the situations that make us anxious in the first place.

If you give your anxieties to God, he can bring you peace in return. Oftentimes, I have to do this over and over and over again but I promise that it works.
